Who is the Museum of Chelmsford?
Situated in the heart of Oaklands Park, the Museum of Chelmsford is home to the story of Chelmsford. From ice age to present day, the museum displays objects and artifacts found in and around Chelmsford and the surrounding district, as well as telling the stories of the people and communities who built it and called it home.
What you’ll find there
The museum showcases: the innovative technology created in the city through its industrial collection; ceramics and craftmanship by Turner Prize winner and former Chelmsford local Grayson Perry; items found from a Saxon royal burial plot found in Broomfield, plus specialist exhibits in a temporary exhibition space with a supporting event programme.
Who they work with
The Museum of Chelmsford prides itself on working closely with the local community, with displays such as Shifting Perspectives, an art exhibition in association with the Alzheimer’s Society. In the Our Chelmsford room, you’ll find a rolling programme of community projects, from working with Chelmsford Collage on their creative responses to LGBT+ History Month, to telling the stories of Chelmsford’s own families from the Windrush generation.
