THE Marshgate Group, a commercial property developer, has announced that it plans to develop up to 20 acres of land to deliver the vision for Horizon 120, the Business and Innovation Park planned for Great Notley.
The Council purchased the 65 acre site at the end of last year with the aim of creating an employment site fit for the future which attracts new firms into the district and offers residents high calibre jobs.
The two parties have entered into an exclusivity agreement to move forward with the first 20 acre phase and the land will be developed by Marshgate on behalf of business interested in relocating to the site.
The park will offer a multitude of commercial uses for a number of sectors including professional services, research, digital and development, distribution and advanced manufacturing.
The details of the proposal will be subject to formal consideration and approval at a meeting of the Cabinet on Monday, 8th July 2019.
David Warburton, Managing Director at The Marshgate Group, said, “We’ve been looking for a well-connected location like this for many years. We’re talking to 18 regionally based, well established companies who are interested in relocating their growing businesses to this site. Many of these firms want larger bespoke buildings which can be built to suit their specific requirements. We have an experienced team with an excellent track record for delivery and a first rate platform which offers the very best in cutting edge building design.”
Cllr Graham Butland, Leader of Braintree District Council, said: “We have always said that we want to make sure that people in our district aren’t forced to commute outside the district for good jobs. We want better access to high quality and well paid jobs closer to home, that’s why we are working hard to create something which is proving to be very exciting. I am especially pleased that the project is advancing and we’re attracting interest from private firms such as Marshgate who want to be part of this journey.”
Cllr John McKee, Cabinet Member for Corporate Transformations, said: “We are looking forward to seeing how Marshgate’s expertise can help us achieve our aims. This is an investment which will benefit our residents, our local economy while also putting Braintree on the map. Marshgate share our aims for a state-of-the-art business and innovation park – making it the place to work and to do business.”
Cllr Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, said: “Horizon 120 is already attracting a lot of attention from businesses from inside the district who want to expand and from businesses outside the district who are looking for something quite special and future proofed. This will really change the employment landscape for our residents now and in the future.”
Cllr Frankie Ricci, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Tourism, said: “Our residents are highly skilled and have a wealth of knowledge. I know local people will appreciate having more work opportunities on their doorsteps. Many people I have spoken to want better chances for their children and grandchildren and I am pleased we are playing an active role in making it happen. It is really exciting for the local community and the wider district.”
