Local businesswomen to be given the opportunity to trade in department store

Six local business start-ups will win an opportunity of a lifetime: to trade on the shop floor of the region’s largest departmental store.

The competition, launched by Colbea (Colchester Business Enterprise Agency) and Fenwick offers winners the opportunity to trade alongside leading brands such as Paul Smith, Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss. Fenwick store director Nancy Foster said the competition will give “the opportunity to sell their business dream on the prestigious Fenwick shop floor in the company of some of the biggest global brands from the world of fashion, home, beauty and food & drink”.

Sam Luxford, overall winner in 2019 said: “The opportunity has made a significant difference to my business. I am extremely grateful to Colbea and Fenwick for giving me the opportunity to trade in such a prestigious store.  The Colchester Fenwick team gave me a very warm welcome and a prime spot in the store. Sales were excellent and the connections made invaluable. Even now a year on, I am still getting work from the connections I made in Fenwick. It is a fantastic opportunity for another emerging business to work with a big high street name and give their business a boost and I am delighted that Fenwick are able to offer this again”.

Winners will be selected from the successful graduates of the In the Market for Success training programme. Funded by NatWest to support businesswomen start their own companies. A shortlist of entrants will be interviewed by the competition Panel in September and the winners will be announced at Colbea’s Annual General Party on 19 November.
